How to wash cloth period pads

You would like to try cloth period pads, but there’s still something holding you back? Might that SOMETHING be the maintenance?

Let’s go through it right from the beginning, so that you too can discover that the maintenance of fabric menstrual pads really is nothing to be afraid of!

We recommend washing the period pads before the first use. Not only because cloth pads reach their highest absorbency after several washes, but primarily because they come into close contact with your skin. Wash the pads at 60 °C (140 °F) in the usual laundry detergent you use on your underwear.

When using cloth period pads, we recommend storing them in our waterproof PUL wetbags before washing. Washing used cloth menstrual pads is really not as difficult as it may seem. You can wash the pads with other laundry that you wash at 60 °C (140 °F). You definitely don’t have to worry about any contamination. The washing machine fills and drains the water several times during the washing cycle - that is, it rinses all the laundry thoroughly. Wash the pads at 60 °C (140 °F).

If you use one of the eco-friendly detergents that are not as effective in stain removal, it is better to rinse out the pads under running cold water after use. We recommend rinsing until clear water flows from the pads. Of course, using bile soap can’t hurt, but it’s definitely not necessary.

How to dry these cloth menstrual pads? It’s simple! Do you have a tumble dryer? Put them in it with the batch of laundry washed. Dry on a gentle cycle. After all, other clothes will also appreciate it. ☺ If you don’t have a dryer, fear not! You can put the menstrual pads on a drying rack to dry.

The final stage is ironing. Ironing is not necessary at all, but if you do iron your underwear and want to iron the pads as well, it’s not a problem. However, only iron the pad side that touches your body and only at a low temperature. And avoid the plastic snaps ☺

And you know what the best part is? You always have cloth menstrual pads at home! No more checking the packages to see if you’d run out of pads, no more restocking your supplies... Simply wash them and they are ready for re-use the following month.
